Redondo Shores High School, Redondo Beach Learning Academy, and our Independent Study programs are back in action! We hope everyone had an adventurous summer and we look forward to another great year. We have had some staff changes but we continue our focus on teaching the state standards, integrating technology, and supporting our students in their transitions to college and careers. We want all of our students to enter the world of work or take college or Southern California Regional Occupation Center (SoCal ROC) courses, and we will support them to concurrently enroll or find a job in the community.
This year we are sad to say goodbye to a few of our staff members. Mr. Jeff Baumback, who taught Physical Education, Health, and Electives, has moved to a full time P.E. position at Parras Middle School. These courses will now be taught by Malcohm Heron. In addition, Kelly Six, our school psychologist, has moved out of the area to be closer to her family. To fill her position, we welcome Chelsea Galucci from Hermosa Beach Unified School District. Chelsea previously worked for RBUSD so we already know she is excellent and we look forward to working with her again. Finally, Mr. Keith Ellison, the Redondo Beach Learning Academy teacher, has moved to a new position so we welcome Alexandra Arellano as our new RBLA teacher. Alexandra comes to us from Los Angeles County Office of Education where she earned the “Teacher of the Year” award working as an alternative education teacher. Three of our Independent Study teachers, Susan Stewart, Jim Ball, and Kathy Zimmerman have moved on as well but we are lucky to have them subbing in for our teachers when they are out.
We are fortunate to have parents active with our School Site Council and this year we hope to have more people attend our parent nights and fundraising events. We intend to maintain our Model Continuation High School status and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accreditation, both awarded in 2013, and we need your input. We have completed our Model School application and are planning for our Model School and WASC Mid-Cycle visits. We strive to always improve our programs so please check our website and read our emails about how to be a part of the process, including submitting your ideas and suggestions. We highly value your contributions so please get involved.
